Let’s say you just got done eating a huge meal at your favorite restaurant. How many other restaurants do you think you’ll pass on your drive home? In hindsight, you’re probably remembering several of them. Now, how many do you think you noticed driving home after your meal? I’m willing to bet you noticed very few, if any. Why is that? It’s all due to your Reticular Activating System which decides what you notice and what you ignore. Since you’re not hungry after a huge meal, your brain ignores the other restaurants on the drive home. The Reticular Activating System also affects how you live your life in many surprising ways.
